natural selection

the work »natural selection« explores the meaning of the natural environment and its complex interrelationships in a tragic and ironic way. nature is selected, isolated and uprooted from its original context. the tree as an object, trapped in the loneliness of isolation. at the same time, decontextualization reveals the dialectical relationship between culture and nature and illuminates the essential importance of organisms, artifacts and non-humans as interacting actors in an interwoven ecosystem.
the tree is copied into a supposedly digital space and is defenselessly exposed to the consequences that come with it. furthermore, the exhibition space negates itself and forms a transition from the neutral surface of the white cube to the digital sphere of transparency. the png-pattern becomes the interface between physical and digital space and the window becomes the screen. the tree itself, in its spatial isolation, remains untouchable for humans.
